BTCC Snetterton Qualifying: Hill masters drying track for pole

25 May 2024

Jake Hill took pole position at Snetterton in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship Quick-Six Qualifying with a last-lap flyer on a tricky drying track.

The Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport driver mastered the conditions to keep going faster with each lap across the final ten minute session. He was pushed right until the end by reigning champion Ashley Sutton for NAPA Racing UK, who was the only driver who could consistently challenge Hill across the ever-improving track.

On his final lap, Sutton went fastest but Hill was able to better him on his own final push to go 0.805s quicker with a 2m00.876s. Team BMW’s Adam Morgan followed him through to go third, nearly a second off pole, recovering from a spin at Riches early on.

Dan Cammish was matching his teammate Sutton early on in the session until his laptime was deleted for track limits. He recovered to fourth.

Series returnee Bobby Thompson had an excellent showing on his first race weekend back with Zeus Cloud Racing with WSR qualifying fifth and showing front-running pace all day. Josh Cook, had spells at the sharp end in the only non-Ford/BMW in the top six. He spun off late during his final attempt and lines up sixth.

The highest placed 2024 race winner on the grid will be Colin Turkington in ninth. The four-time champion, who sits second in the points, took the double at Brands Hatch Indy two weeks ago from pole position but failed to make it into the Quick-Six this time around. He sits behind TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK duo of Andrew Watson and Rob Huff. Daniel Rowbottom rounds out the top ten.

Third in the standings, Tom Ingram for Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS, didn’t make it out of the group stages and will start in 13th, 11 places behind championship leader and rival Ashley Sutton.

The first race for the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton will take place tomorrow at 11.35 with two more races following later on. Tickets are available on the gate all day, under-13s get in free.
