British GT Race 1: Barwell Lamborghinis claim Snetterton one-two

14 July 2024

Barwell Motorsport’s Lamborghinis continued their impressive weekend-long form by securing a one-two in the opening British GT Championship race of the weekend at Snetterton this afternoon (Sunday).

The pole sitting Huracan of father and son duo Rob and Ricky Collard led the opening phase of the race in the former’s hands despite the early attention of Alex Martin in the sister car. Collard and Martin were then able to gap the chasing pack as a fight began to brew for third position between the Team Abba Racing Mercedes-AMG of Richard Neary and those behind.

The leaders continued to circle in their starting positions until the GT3 pit stop window, at which point they came in nose to tail. At this point, a five-second pit stop success penalty came into play for the leading car, promoting its stablemate into the lead, now in the hands of Sandy Mitchell. From there the Barwell machines drove home to an impressive first and second at the end of 60 minutes racing at the Norfolk circuit.

The podium was completed by the Abba Mercedes-AMG which withstood early race pressure before Sam Neary, son of Richard took over for the second half. The car crossed the line just one second ahead of Phil Keen in the 2 Seas Mercedes-AMG which hounded it in Loggie’s hands early on. The top-five in GT3 was completed by the J&S Racing Audi R8 LMS od Sacha Kakad and Hugo Cook.

GT4 class honours went to the Century Motorsport BMW M4 of Charlie Robertson and Ravi Ramyead.
