BTCC heads back to Snetterton as title fight takes shape

15 May 2023

The fight for the 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship looks enormously wide open ahead of the series’ visit to Snetterton for three races on the full 300 circuit this weekend (20/21 May).

Dan Cammish leads the way in this year’s title fight, but it was his NAPA Racing UK teammate Ash Sutton who truly set the track alight last time out with a double victory at Brands Hatch. And reigning champion Tom Ingram and multiple title winner Colin Turkington are both in the hunt too.

Cammish has enjoyed a stellar start to this season following two wins at Donington Park which set up his early series lead. Pole position at Brands Hatch followed and the Ford Focus ST driver produced three solid drives in Kent to maintain his momentum. He heads to Norfolk with 88 points on the board.

Ingram has been supremely consistent so far this term, racking up three podiums without quite reaching the top step. The BRISTOL STREET MOTORS with EXCLER8 ace is now firmly established as one of the finest drivers on the grid and it won’t be long before his Hyundai i30N passes the chequered flag first. He’ll be hoping this happens at Snetterton.

The leading duo will have their eye firmly in the rear view mirror as Sutton’s Brands Hatch performance was a clear sign of title intent. The three-time champion was unable to match Colin Turkington in the opening race on the Indy circuit, but he impressively won both of the remaining races.

Team BMW’s Turkington is the other driver in the initial leading bunch heading into this event. It’s been four years since the Northern Irishman claimed the most recent of his quartet of titles, and he’ll be keen to press on as he continues the chase for an unprecedented fifth crown.

Jake Hill completes the top-five in the standings and he’ll be a driver really aiming to ignite a title challenge at Snetterton. Hill finished second in the opening race of the season at Donington Park but is yet to return to the podium in his Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW 330e M Sport. Hill took the title fight right up to the final event last season and he’ll be chasing hard to close the gap to the leaders at this early stage.

Others to look out for as the series heads to East Anglia will include Bobby Thompson, Thom Chilton, Josh Cook and Adam Morgan. Fan favourites Nicolas Hamilton and Jade Edwards will be in action as well, both at the wheel of Cupra Leons.

Discounted advance tickets are available from £34 with reductions for 13-15-year-olds and free entry for under-13s. For more information, please call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
